Mike received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the College of William & Mary in 2006. He is currently living in Richmond and studying towards a degree in teaching from Virginia Commonwealth University.

While at William & Mary, Mike studied classical piano with Christine Niehaus and jazz piano with Harris Simon. He also played piano and tenor saxophone in the W&M Jazz Ensemble, baritone and tenor saxes in the W&M Wind Symphony, and saxes in the pit orchestras for several musical theater productions. Mike gave his senior recital in April 2006 which included solo classical piano, jazz piano with a drummer and bassist, and Mike conducted a military style wind ensemble. He was awarded the Elizabeth P. Tillery Memorial Scholarship and the Gladys Clark Music Scholarship by the music department faculty based on musical ability and his active participation in the department. Additionally, Mike was active in the W&M folk/rock music scene as a singer-songwriter, and guitarist and drummer for several ensembles in the community.
